The Pike County Area Chapter of A.F.R.A. began in January, 1999. Our purpose is to assist fathers, non-custodial mothers, children and grandparents in the Pike County area. We will also assist the other chapters within the state in changing the way fathers are viewed and treated in our Alabama courts and hopefully, the nation.
It is a travesty that the place where justice is supposed to prevail, our courts, shamelessly practices blatant gender discrimination without remorse. Divorce courts usually take away a father's right to be a parent to his children and powerless, he and his family to undergo senseless tribulations on the whims of a vindictive and manipulative ex-wife. By court decree, a custodial mother's lifestyle must be maintained, while a father and his second family (if there is one) must live on whatever is left. Fathers are reduced to "visiting" their children, IF the custodial mom is agreeable. All to often, this meager visitation is manipulated by the custodial mom, who knows full well there isn't a whole lot a father can do except hire a lawyer (if the father can still afford to) and go back to court. Unlike fathers, who have the full weight of the state bureaucracy ensuring child support is paid, and who can now be charged as a felon for failure to pay child support, the custodial mom is unlikely to face more than a slap on the wrist by the courts. The state only seems to worry about child support, not children having two parents in their lives.
That's where our members come
in. Only by working together, we can make a difference and make changes the rest of
the United States should follow. We can slow down the rate
of inmates heading into prison, we can slow down the number of
teen suicides, we can slow down the number of kids with
behavioral disorders, chemical dependencies and runaways.
It has been said, "Our future is our children."
But, if we don't act together to make sure fathers can remain a
part of their children's lives... even after divorce, we lose the
future for our children.
Our meetings are held in Troy at Hephzibah Baptist Church, in the fellowship hall (See maps below). Call 334-566-0849 for scheduling.
The following map will take you to our meeting site. Come join us and make a difference in your own child's life.
