Children's Bill of Rights
AFRA holds that all children have the following civil rights, protected by
the Constitution of the United States of America and the several states, to wit:
The right to have a personal relationship with both parents, even
if they should decide not to stay married.
The right to the personal care and comfort of both biological or
adopted parents, each not less than one half of the time, from birth to
the age of emancipation.
The right to reasonable basic necessities of life, including food, shelter and
clothing, along with the expectation that both parents will provide same
during the time they are in care of the child in question.
The right of access to necessary medical care and assistance as with any
other citizen of the United States, subject only to the condition that a minor's health
and status may be communicated to their parents.
The right to an education provided by the parents, either directly or through proxy
appointed at the parents' discretion, up to the age of 18 years or graduation of high
school, subject to the aptitude and desire of the individual child.
The right to unfettered and private communication with
both parents at any time, subject only to the reasonable containment of cost when the
parent and child are not located in the same place.
The right to be free from abuse and neglect in all of its forms, except that lawful
and reasonable disciplinary measures imposed on minor children by their parents or
lawfully appointed proxies are by definition not considered abuse.
The right to be free from unreasonable risk in one's environment, including
manifestly unhealthy living conditions or an unsafe environment that would lead a
reasonable person to conclude that the child is in danger of serious physical or emotional
harm.
